Profile

A rectangular tile with rough chamfered edges, typically between 5mm to 8mm thick.

Characteristics

A maintenance free roof (when using copper or light alloy nails) that is resistant to chemicals, frost, rapid temperature change.  The colour variation does not affect the tiles performance.

Battens

50mm x 50mm gauged battens on rafters up to 600 centres.  50mm x 25mm gauged battens up to 450 centres.

Underlay

Use self supporting breather type roofing underlay. Underlay is fixed under the battens.

General

PERFORMANCE:
Fire:  Slates are non combustible.
CHEMICAL RESISTANCE:
Slate is particularly resistant to attack by severly polluted atmospheres. 
BIOLOGICAL: 
Unaffected by vegetable growth, rot or insect attack.

Mechanical Fixing

Slate nails should be copper or light alloy, 38mm long.  All slates must be fixed with two nails.  Slates should be holed from the underside, the resultant spalling forms a countersink for the nailing head.
