CEDAR SHINGLES

APPLICATIONS DETAILS

Profile

A light easy to handle shingle in a rough sawn finish.

Characteristics

Certigrade, red cedar shingles, No 1 Blue label, 100% heartwood, 100% clear and 100% edge grain.  Can be CCA treated.  Shingles are strapped in bundles each covering approx 2.2m/sq depending on the pitch.

Fixings

Each shingle is fixed with marine grade stainless steel staples at least 32mm long.  Stables are placed approx 19mm to 25mm from the side edges of the shingles and 38mm to 50mm above the butt line of the course.

SHINGLE APPLICATION
Regardless of style, the following basic application details must be observed.

1.  Shingle must be double at all   eaves.

2.  Butts of first course shingles should project 38mm beyond the facia.

3.  Spacing between adjacent shingles (joints) should be a minimum of 6mm and a maximum of 9mm.

4.  Joints in any one course should be separated not less than 38mm from joints in adjacent courses; and in any three courses, no two joints should be in direct alignment.

5.  Flat grain shingles wider than 300mm should be split in two before nailing.  Knots and similar defects should be treated as the edge of the shingle and the joint in the course above placed 38mm from the edge of the defect.

Pitch

Maximum weatherexposure using 455mm shingle on pitches over 19 degree 140mm.  For pitches between 15 degrees up to 19 degrees maximum exposure  is to be 105mm.  On roofs below 19 degrees a 450mm wide strip of roofing felt or underlay should be laid between each course.

Battens

50mm x 25mm batten spaced to suit roof pitch.
